A Short Introduction: CBD vs. THC, the Endocannbinoid System, Topical CBD

Many people are confused about the difference between THC and CBD as well as what the benefits of using CBD are? We've put together some information for you to use to help get the word out!

What is CBD a.k.a. Cannabidiol (can·na·bi·di·ol)?

CBD is a cannabinoid (can·na·bi·noid). Cannabinoids are a class of diverse compounds which act on cannabinoid receptors in cells and alter neurotransmitter releases in the brain. These include endocannabinoids (produced naturally in human and animal bodies) and phytocannabinoids (found in cannabis sativa L. and/or hemp, and some other plants such as flax).

Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

"The presence and regulatory role of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in all animals, except for insects, has been confirmed by science."

The presence and regulatory role of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in all animals, except for insects, has been confirmed by science. Animals produce endocannabinoids, which act on specific receptors found throughout the body: the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells. The activation response of these receptors by phytocannabinoids, like CBD, are currently under study for a broad scope of applications as they may regulate various physiological functions.

CBD vs. THC

The most notorious cannabinoid is, of course, THC or tetrahydrocannabinol (tet·ra·hy·dro·can·nab·i·nol ). CBD is similar to THC in that they both are found in the cannabis sativa L. and/or hemp plant in varying degrees. NOTE: there are over a hundred different varieties of cannabinoids in the cannabis and hemp plant. Although CBD and THC extraction comes from the same family of plants, these naturally occurring compounds have some important distinctions between them. In application, the main difference is that CBD is non-intoxicating, which seems to be the most updated and accurate description among experts, while many also claim CBD is non-psychoactive. Whatever semantics research develops, it is clear at this point that CBD does not cause a “high” effect which may be cause for concern for many people. THC research, it's legal status, and it’s potential benefits, along with the combined effects of both CBD & THC together is all still developing. This exciting research may provide more condition-specific applications in the future.

While Sootheen respects sound research regarding all cannabinoids, it is important for those interested in cannabis and hemp products to note that it is NOT CBD, but instead, THC which is, most commonly, responsible for the “high” effect, marked by an altered perception of reality, and/or euphoric feelings, that many people describe as undesirable and distracting.

IS CBD LEGAL?

Fortunately, CBD does not have this “high” effect. CBD from hemp is also legally distinct from THC, "marihuana" or "marijuana", even though both compounds, CBD and THC, come from the very same cannabis plant family. You can read more about the US legal definition of hemp in the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, SEC. 297A. & SEC. 7605. of the Legitimacy of Industrial Hemp Research (7 U.S.C. 5940). https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/2/text

indiCREME: Topical, Transdermal

CBD in the form of CBD cream for pain is a topical application. Although a topical, indiCREME CBD is designed to penetrate skin naturally. It does this using the transdermal carrier, emu oil, which essentially mimics human sebum, absorbing into the skin and delivering the rest of indiCREME's ingredients, including CBD, through all layers of skin, through the fat layers, and into the bloodstream.

BUT, DOES IT WORK?

indiCREME's ingredient list also includes some powerful, yet all-natural, FDA approved, external analgesic agents, such as menthol and camphor. This is a plus for those who wish to avoid harsh chemicals and preservatives but need something strong and proven. As always, the user should consult their trusted physician before using CBD and any new ingredient, regarding potential reactions and side effects. Users should also know how they personally, react to new ingredients before operating a vehicle, heavy machinery, or anything that requires concentrated attention and coordination.
